Wheat...Early week trade in the west coast wheat markets showed cash
bids gaining some footing against a rebound in the futures complex. Basis
levels remained firm for all classes of wheat, and relatively strength
has been apparent as hard red winter bids have gained nearly 50 cents on
white wheat since the first of the year.
Crop Progress...Pacific Northwest winter wheat ratings showed further
improvement over the past week, with the three-state index gaining a full
point to 108% of average and sets at the best rating since 1998. The good
to excellent for Idaho gained a point to 86%, Oregon was also up a point
to 64%, while Washington posted an 8 point jump to 94%. Steady rounds of
precipitation continue to blanket the region this week.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a relatively light week
of wheat movement off U.S. ports, coming in at 9.9 million bushels. This
puts year-to-date shipments at 770 million bushels, which is running 14%
ahead of a year ago. Hard red spring was the top shipper with 4.9 million
bushels, followed by hard red winter at 2.7 and white wheat with just 1.4
million. West coast exporters moved 4.9 million bushels of wheat, going
to The Philippines and Taiwan, along with 18.6 million bushels of corn
and 2.5 million bushels of soybeans.
